In reponse to the recent messages about hooking your Synchronet BBS up to the
Internet I would like to unvail a project that I have been working on for the
past 3 months. I have developed a series of interfaces that will allow you to
interface your board with the Internet with the following options:
* Newsgroups - Currently I carry 100 of them, the total number you
- can carry is unlimited
* FTP File Areas - Currently I have SimTels Software Repository
- Online. 200 File Areas, 15,000 files.
- Full descriptions, and I didn't have to type
- in a single file area or description
* Anonymous FTP - Anonymously FTP any file from any site on the
- entire internet. It will bring the file online
- with a description.
* E-Mail - Just recently I designed the engine which will
- allow you to use one e-mail account to reach
- your entire user base. Your users can send
- E-mail to anyone on the internet as well.
* Archie - Locate any file anywhere on the internet
* Finger - Get information on any user on the internet
* Whois - Get user information on anyone on the internet.
I have designed this software with my own system in mind. I run with 1 modem
and phone line so there is a delay between the time a user requests a file for
FTP and when it is brought online. Although you can configure it how you want
to, I pick up all the FTP requests in one event nightly.
As you saw in the previous quotes, the prices that internet providers are
charging these days are astronomical. How much do I pay to do all that I do
might you ask? 7 dollars and 95 cents a month. Thats it. All you need is a
standard unix shell account and you are ready to roll.
I have kept this software to myself for a long time now but am considering
marketting it to Synchronet Sysops around the world. If you are interested you
can contact me at the following addresses:
jobe@universe.digex.net (Internet)
1:261/1204 (Fidonet)
Or voice at 410-667-4525 (This number will only be voice until my system
goes online officially. Most like in under 3
weeks time. Then it will be taken over for a
BBS call in number)
